About Herzberg
1993 Dark Bay 16.2 h Trakehner Stallion
El. St. Leonardo – Persaldo – Prince Rouge XX
Approved by the German Oldenburg and Rhineland Pfalz-Saar Verbands

Herzberg is a highly noble and elegant true-to-type Grand Prix Dressage Trakehner Stallion. Herzberg has an infusion of Trakehner lightness and "blood" clearly sought after in the modern sporthorse.  His lineage includes some of the most successful and proven bloodlines.  Herzberg's sire, the Elite Stallion Leonardo, is a excellent riding horse sire with extremely good active gaits. Leonardo's progeny excelled at FEI Levels in Dressage and Jumping in Germany.  Herzberg's grandsire, the stallion Virgil, was champion at his Keuring in 1974 and champion at his 100 day test in Medingen, Germany in 1975. These bloodlines combined with Herzberg's dam Hetra, an elegant and typey Trakehner mare with strong sporthorse features, brings legendary bloodlines like Persaldo and Hessenstein. With this solid pedigree, Herzberg exhibits all the charm and glamorous movement one could wish for! Herzberg's first foal crops show great noblesse and brilliance in movement. Herzberg passes on his remarkable character, lovely disposition, very handsome and kind face, and great refinement. Herzberg also passes on his lightness of movement with a very active hind end, enabling him to excel to the upper levels of any sporthorse discipline.

Licensed in 1996 in Germany, Herzberg completed his 100-Day Performance Test in 1997 at Adelheidsdorf, Germany where he excelled in character, temperament and rideability as well as movement.  Herzberg won the title Landeschampion of the 4 year olds in jumping in South Germany with a score of 9.0. Dr. Dietrich Plewa, the judge at the competition commented as translated from German: "A 4 year-old that you couldn’t expect better from! A wonderful bascule, magnificent roundness of the neck and back, beautiful leg technique, great potential for uphill, ground-covering canter, in beautiful contact with the rider’s hand. He continued to keep the beautiful flow and expression through to the end. It is certainly not exaggerating to give a score of 9.0, and with that we introduce our new 1997 Landeschampion of the 4 Year-Olds!"  Herzberg went on to win many ribbons in Materiale and Young Horse Dressage and Jumping classes in Germany.

After his arrival to the United States, Herzberg was very successful in Dressage classes up to the International CDI-W*** level.  In 2003 Herzberg won numerous Prix St. George and Intermediare I classes with scores into the 70's.  In 2003, Herzberg was named ATA Prix St. George Horse of the Year and 2003 Reserve Champion ATA Intermediare I Horse of the Year.  In 2004, Herzberg finished the year with scores up to 73.750% including a winning champion sweep at the 2004 Pebble Beach CDI***; securing the first place finish in Prix St. George, Intermediare I, and the Intermediare I Freestyle. Due to his phenomenal performance, Herzberg won the Pebble Beach CDI***Highpoint Perpetual Trophy and won the 2004 USDF HOY Intermediare I ATA Award. In 2005, Herzberg won his first Grand Prix at the Festival of the Horse in Burbank, Ca.  Then at the Rancho Murieta CDI W***, He placed 5th in the Grand Prix and 3rd in the Grand Prix Special which earned him his first World Cup points.  Herzberg ended up 14th in the USET Grand Prix rankings in 2005 in his first year at Grand Prix.

Herzberg half-pass.

During his first year at stud, Herzberg produced two highly placed States Premium and Elite mares for the Rheinland Pfalz-Saar Verband in Germany.  Herzberg consistently throws Gold Premium Champion foals both in the US and in Germany.  In 2003 a daughter of Herzberg was named Premium mare in the US by the RPSI Verband, and a Premium Gold Medal colt was imported from Germany to the US.

In 2004, 100% of Herzberg's foals in Germany received  Premium awards from multiple Verbands.  As the first US foals made their debut in 2005, a colt out of a Figaro x Goldtern x Luciano mare became GOV inspection Site Champion, capturing  the Premium Award.  At another inspection, Herzberg proved his worth once more with another Premium colt out of a Rubicell dam.  He has sired many Verband Elite and State Premium Mares for the RPSI Verband in Germany and also sired Verband Premium Champion mares here in the United States with multiple Verbands. Through all of his foals, Herzberg's brilliant movement with his exceptional activity of the hind limbs comes through.  All of Herzberg's foals stand out in their beauty, presence and temperament.  In 2006 Herzberg's offspring once again claimed 100% premiums status. In 2009, High Definition, a stallion prospect sired by Herzberg competed in USEF 4 year old Dressage classes winning with high scores.  Another son, Redhawk's Harmony qualified for the Region 5 Championships. Success continues to repeat itself year after year.  Herzberg is definitely a modern sporthorse sire of great quality.
